Wednesday, February 11th, 2015 at 6:08pm Engel & Völkers Aspen | Roaring Fork

New “Affordable” Base 1 Hotel Approved

Aspen City Council unanimously voted in favor of Mark Hunt’s Base1 lodge proposal, which will replace the existing building occupied by Johnny McGuire’s and Domino’s Pizza at 730 E. Cooper Avenue in Aspen. The “affordable” lodge will offer 177 square foot rooms for approximately $150 a night, and feature a coffee shop and basement bowling alley.

Sky Hotel Redevelopment at Base of Ajax Approved

At the same public hearing as Base 1, Aspen City council also unanimously passed the Sky Hotel redevelopment proposal, after months of a contentious land-use review that saw the developers significantly amend their proposal to remove all variances for height and square footage. The new 104 room hotel will replace the existing 90-room hotel. Demolition is expected to begin in the spring of 2016.

Aspen’s Iconic Hotel Jerome has a New Owner

Houston businessman Dan Friedkin closed on his purchase of the historic Hotel Jerome for an estimated $70 million in early February 2015. The seller was Chicago-based DRW Real Estate. The 93-room hotel, which spans more than 113,000 square feet, underwent a major renovation in 2012 and will continue to be managed by Auberge Resorts.
