14 Things You Need To Know Before Moving To Melbourne, FL

We are the Space Coast.

Melbourne is right in the heart of Florida’s Space Coast which is ground zero for America’s space programs. You’ll find the whole community gathering together along the coast to watch the beauty of our rocket launches right out of Cape Canaveral. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of the shaking from the rocket breaking through the atmosphere and the rumble that people of the Space Coast long for.

Miles and Miles of Beaches.

Melbourne has some incredibly gorgeous beachfront properties right on the water with endless things to do. This beautiful slice of the sunshine state is very family friendly and boasts some incredible outdoor activities from surfing and paddle boarding to kayaking and fishing! There is truly something here for all ages.

Technology and Jobs.

According to the Milken Institute, Brevard ranks #1 in Florida and #6 in the nation for the most concentrated high-tech economy. We have endless opportunities in Melbourne, FL for technology careers, and companies are hiring!

What about restaurants?

We have an amazing food culture in Melbourne, FL! You can visit Crush XI in Downtown Melbourne for one of their amazing cocktail creations and a nice ribeye dinner or head down the street and get yourself a craft beer from a selection of 70 beers on tap and fish tacos from The Mansion. From upscale fusion flavors at Matt's Casbah to fantastic pub fare at Meg O'Malleys, Melbourne has something fun for the foodie in you.

Did we mention Downtown Melbourne?

Aptly named Historic Downtown Melbourne, this piece of the city has been standing and running for over a century! It’s the livelihood of melbourne with a business district of coffee shops, bars, boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs. Everyone has something to enjoy in Historic Downtown Melbourne.

The Brevard Zoo is just a short 10 minute trip north and offers an great day of fun! The Brevard Zoo is 75 acres of over 100 species with dozens of educational programs and activities for the whole family. The Brevard Zoo even has a newer addition called The Treetop Trek, that’s a zipline tour through the canopy adventure that’s a must-do. You will be impressed by our local zoo!

Do you love the performing arts?

The Maxwell C. King Center for Performing Arts is the city’s main venue for big performers all year round. With a packed schedule of big name performers you can expect to be able to see bands, orchestras, plays, comedies and more.

Boats! Boats! Boats!

With the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River as our playground, we have a huge boating community as you could probably imagine. If you love boating you’ll probably find yourself out on the water every single weekend, either power boating, sailing or docked on a sandbar island for an afternoon in our beautiful waters.

Speaking of the water…

A short trip out of Brevard is our southern neighbor, Sebastian, which has a beautiful blue water Inlet, pristine beach and fishing pier. The Sebastian Inlet is a great spot to get away and bring the family for the day. The inlet is where the Ocean and the River connect together. You can see all kinds of wildlife here from Goliath Grouper, Dolphins and even Sharks! But don’t worry, there’s a shallow water area for families to hang in the water all day long that’s barricaded away from the main waters.

So you love Mountain Biking…

We don’t exactly have mountains in this neck of the woods, but we do have a lot of trails! Turkey Creek Sanctuary. Turkey Creek was established in 1981 and turned into a sanctuary to preserve our wildlife as well as off walking, biking, and even horse trails. With 130 acres to explore and 9 miles of Mountain Bike trails, you’ll be able to ride to your heart’s content all day long.

Kayaking in Turkey Creek Sanctuary.

There’s also a kayak launch in the Turkey Creek Sanctuary! Turkey Creek is connected to our beloved Intracoastal Waterway and it gives you endless kayaking adventures through the wooded creek. Just carry your kayak a short walk to the launch and off you go. It's easy to explore the wildlife that Brevard County has to offer.

Mickey Mouse!

Disney and all of the Orlando theme parks are only a 1 hour drive away. Orlando is a great day trip or weekend getaway for the family to visit the theme parks and of course visit Mickey Mouse!

Airboats and Alligators.

Melbourne also has the St. Johns River on the west side of the city and it offers a great way to experience Florida Wildlife! There are several Airboat tours along the St. Johns River where you can see all kinds of wildlife, including lots of Florida Alligators! They even have haunted airboat tours during halloween time.
