Ultra Violet! This deep purple is meant to communicate ingenuity and originality, according to the Pantone Color Institute. It is a distinctive and complex color with cool blue undertones.
"Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come" says Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of Pantone.
Unlike last years color, Greenery, Ultra Violet will be more tricky to integrate into design. Greenery was a lovely green hue, such that you would find in nature. It was subdued enough that it has been used as a neutral in interior design. However, this year's color is so bold that a little goes a long way. So, we think that this hue would serve best as an accent in design. We are sure to see the color pop up next year in various accessories and furniture pieces - so stock up if you're a fan! Also, look out for this color making a big statement on the catwalk!
Purple is said to be a calming color, so it could add a soothing effect in the bedroom or bathroom. It would be a great choice for an impactful headboard or a tile backsplash. You could even add a few purple throw pillows or ottomans to your living room to stay on-trend. Even in small doses, this deep hue will be impactful!
It is Pantone Color Institute's hope that designers and brands around the world utilize the power of color to inspire and influence. The Color of the Year has become more than a trend, it truly symbolizes what is needed in our world today and can provide a strategic direction for the world of design for a moment in time. Together, we can inspire ingenuity and innovation!
