This past Saturday I attended Dog Day Afternoon, a fundraiser for the Palmetto Animal League put on by Linda Rudd’s Team at the Bluffton Shop. The team had perfect, sunny weather for the event. With plenty of puppy treats and human treats to go around, it was great to see the local community interacting with the Engel & Völkers family and shelter dogs. Linda Rudd’s Team helped three shelter dogs find homes that day, and with the assistance of Dolly The Shop Dog and her kissing booth, the team was able to donate over $300 to the Palmetto Animal League. Being a dog lover myself, I was tempted to take Pebbles, the puppy, home with me! But I was told that a puppy may not be the best resident to have in the intern suite, bummer. However, I was in doggy heaven being surrounded by the shelter dogs and local pups coming and going with their owners for a friendly visit. I can’t wait for the next Dog Day Afternoon!
Another week has flown by on this sea-charmed island. This week I spent my time relaxing and exploring the nature parks on the island. I found a hidden park by the airport called Fish Haul Creek Park. It was surrounded by a lush forest and it lead me down a winding path to the beach. The path was overflowing with Spanish moss and it was lined with tons of Palmetto Trees. I walked all around the beach and met some interesting locals that shared their stories about the island. The houses on the beach were larger than life and I loved the aroma of the fresh, ocean air. Since I was so close to the airport I could sit on the beach and watch the airplanes take off. It was soothing watching the airplanes and taking time to enjoy the lowcountry way of living.
