Homeownership is incredibly rewarding but can come with a few chores that may not be ideal. For many, yard work falls under that category. Luckily there are a lot of landscaping ideas that will not only reduce the upkeep your yard needs, but can also cut your water bills.

Spring has definitely sprung in Sun Valley. Trees and flowers are blooming and the grass is getting greener after a hard winter under piles of snow. If you want to give your home a makeover that will require less work and time over the growing months, check out these options:

Replace Plants with a Water Feature – While it may seem counterintuitive, with a recirculating water feature you are using minimal water and providing great visual interest to your yard. Plus, who doesn’t love the relaxing noise of moving water?

Seek Local, Hardy Plants – Each region has native plants that are often incredibly sturdy. Importing plants might seem luxurious, but they often need more attention and more water to stay alive outside of their normal growing area. Native plants will thrive on water that is common in your area without irrigation.

Hardscape or Xeriscape – Grass looks great when it is perfectly green and manicured. However that takes many hours and plenty of water. Hardscaping or xeriscaping swaps grass for a patios, rocks, bark or other surfaces that don’t require water. Not only will you cut down on your water bill, but you will spend less time mowing your lawn or weeding garden beds!
