According to a recent study completed by WalletHub, Washington State was named the 16th Happiest State in America! Minnesota scored #1 happiest state with Utah as #2. Washington & Oregon came in at 15 & 16, respectively, and the unhappiest state in the nation is West Virginia. Washington also came in at #3 in the sports participation rate!
To rank happiness, WalletHub analysts used three key dimensions:
1. Emotional & Physical Health
2. Work Environment
3. Community & Environment
Within these dimensions were 28 objective metrics including adequate sleep rates, adult depression rates, job security, underemployment rate, volunteer rate and separation & divorce rates. Washington's highest dimension is the "work environment" ranking, coming in at #4 in the nation. This indicates that a high percentage of WA residents have a good work/life balance and have high job security. Washington residents are also optimistic about the state economy and income growth rate.
A person's overall happiness is really up to them. However, contentedness with life is not always a matter of perspective. It turns out that where we live can have an impact on our individual happiness & satisfaction.
