Monday, October 16th, 2017 at 3:53am Ben Larson

With clear, aquamarine waters rippling around you and the open horizon beckoning, there's no limit to where a yachting holiday might take you. From sailing in Monaco to exploring tropical archipelagos, yachting vacations expand your opportunities and allow you to take in all the sights of a country without sacrificing on comfort. Here are our favourite coastlines for chartering yachts and what you can expect from these dream destinations.

Our favourite sailing destinations for 2017

With over 1000 islands of rugged landscape to explore, Croatia is fast transforming from a hidden gem into a popular relaxation spot. However, sailing in Croatia is still an exclusive experience, especially if you take a tour around the Dalmatian islands where secluded coves and deserted beaches can still be found at certain times of the year. Historical villages dot the white sands of this unspoiled coastline and if you look over the side of your yacht, you'll see turquoise waters perfect for swimming, snorkelling or scuba diving. If you head to Istria, you'll find delicious cuisine in the form of local truffles and seafood, including mussels, clams, carpet shells and scallops. Sailing in Croatia is most popular in July and August, while in June and September it sometimes feels as you have your own private sea.

For those of you looking for more tropical waters, sailing around the Seychelles might provide just the relaxing experience. Around 115 islands make up this small country off the east coast of Africa, and there's at least 65 beaches, coves and grottos on Mahé, which is the largest island. Equally, the Seychelles contains 74 coral islands and many reefs to explore as well as plenty of safe moorage sites for your yacht. Chartering a boat here allows you to go at your own pace, and the glassy sea makes for smooth, easy sailing.

If you've already conquered the great cities of Rome, Venice and Naples, it might be time to experience another side of Italy from the water. Sicily has golden beaches and fascinating towns like Palermo to delve into, as well as quieter ports like Taormina where quaint cobbled streets wind through the hillside and down to the sandy coves. From the comfort of your yacht, you can take in the wonderful sunset views of Mount Etna on the south side and Stromboli to the north.

French Riviera

With its alluring balance between cosmopolitan centres and verdant countryside, the French Riviera leaves little to be desired. The high-end resorts of Cannes, Nice and Monaco attract yachts in all shapes and sizes every year, with individuals looking for slow and indulgent holidays at Port-Cros and Porquerolles. Whether you’re looking to share in the glamour of the larger marinas like Port Vauban in Antibes or Port de Saint-Laurent-Du-Var, or enjoy the peace and quiet of more exclusive harbours, it’s easy to find your ideal escape yachting in Monaco. The new Engel & Völkers Yachting shop is located on the Quai Jean-Charles Rey, next to Port de Fontvieille; the perfect position to charter from and begin your holiday yachting in Monaco.

Whether you plan on yachting in Monaco or sailing around the Seychelles, Engel & Völkers Yachting will find the perfect vessel to suit your needs and create a bespoke itinerary for any worldwide destination. Besides chartering, our luxury yachting brokerage house also offers a sale and exchange service to help you upsize or upgrade your yacht, now that you've become hooked on that fresh sea air.
